The San Francisco Neo-Futurists were founded in 2013, when our ensemble began performing our flagship production, The Infinite Wrench, an ongoing, ever-changing attempt to perform 30 plays in 60 minutes.

In the intervening years, we have been critically lauded and recognized as an integral part of the San Francisco arts scene. We’ve held more than 900 weekly performances, staging over 4,300 original plays for over 28,000 audience members. The SF Weekly Readers Poll and SF Bay Guardian’s “Best of the Bay” have both named us the best theater company in San Francisco multiple times. We have also been recognized as one of “22 San Francisco things everyone must do” by the San Francisco Chronicle.

Besides the weekly show, we create several specialty productions per year that combine past work and new work in the same format as The Infinite Wrench, presented at other Bay Area venues including Shotgun Theatre and Oasis, as well as performances for Litquake, Sketchfest, the SF Fringe Festival, and Yerba Buena Night.

In workshops offered throughout the year, we invite participants to create theatrical work where they may perform their lived experiences in their own voices. Past workshop partnerships with educational institutions include Oakland Technical High School, Stanford University, Notre Dame High School San Jose, and Richmond Neighborhood Center. We additionally offer free workshops for BIPOC artists, facilitated by BIPOC members of the ensemble.

Our active ensemble includes a diverse group of individuals creating work that highlights experiences across spectrums and at the intersections of multiple identities including Black, Latine, Asian, Middle Eastern, white, gay, queer, straight, trans, gender non-confirming, cisgender, non-disabled, disabled, neurotypical, neurodivergent, living with chronic illness, working class, and immigrant/non-immigrant status. The multi-faceted nature of our existences informs the whole of the work that we present.
