Robey’s mission is to foster a community of artists whose purpose is to develop and produce plays written about the global Black experience.

Founded in 1994, by theatre veterans and friends, Ben Guillory and Danny Glover, the organization began as a readers’ theatre centering on classics; and, incorporated in 1996 as a nonprofit organization. The Robey Theatre Company continues to operate as company of artists who believe in the transformational power of plays: Specifically, plays that would tell the vital and complex stories of a people.
