With support from the California Arts Council, THE LIBRARY OF MUSICLANDRIA will use CAC grant funds to pay staff, rent and operating costs in order to sustain and grow professional development opportunities for Sacramento area musicians.
Founded in 2014, MusicLandria is dedicated to breaking down the barriers to musical exploration. We are a radical music hub, For Musicians, By Musicians. We envision a world where musicians thrive. To achieve our mission and vision, we provide low-income musicians in the Sacramento region with free access to music instruments and professional development opportunities.
Our two main services include: our free Music Instrument Locker (MIL) and Warm Robot Studios.
1) Our MIL constitutes the foundation of our operation and is the only one of its kind in CA, with over 100 instruments and pieces of gear available for free. This includes brass instruments, electronic music instruments, keyboards, percussion instruments, stringed instruments, recording gear and world instruments. Since launching the MIL on March 1, 2024, we have served 60 musicians, providing them with free access to over 100 instruments valued at more than $8,000. Over 40% of the people who use the MIL have a household annual income of less than $25,000 per year. 50% of the people who use the MIL identify as part of a historically and systemically under-resourced community.
2) Warm Robot Studios has served over 600 musicians since MusicLandria’s launch in 2014. This program provides musicians with free or donation based practice space, recording services, career planning, an all ages music venue, musician residencies, meetups and a newly launched record label called Warm Robot Records.
Musicians in Sacramento, CA are grappling with rising living costs and dwindling gig opportunities, making it increasingly difficult to sustain their careers. Despite Sacramento’s rich cultural scene, financial instability remains a pervasive challenge for local artists. The high cost of music instruments further exacerbates the financial stresses faced by Sacramento musicians, making it even more challenging to pursue their musical passions and sustain their careers.
