With support from the California Arts Council, THE FOUNDATION FOR SANTA BARBARA CITY COLLEGE/THE ATKINSON GALLERY AT SBCC will partner with the SBCC VETERANS SUPPORT and RESOURCE CENTER to increase the enrollment, retention, and academic success of veterans and their dependents at SBCC by helping to establish a campus cohort through arts learning activities, including the development of visual literacy skills and self-expression in both visual and written form.
SBCC provides outstanding, affordable higher education and lifelong learning, and works to ensure academic success for all students as they earn a degree or certificate, prepare for transfer, or gain occupational competencies and academic skills needed to advance in their careers. A federally-designated Hispanic Serving Institution, SBCC serves all segments of our diverse community by maintaining quality programs, collaborating with local organizations to identify educational needs and develop programs to meet those needs, and continually expanding efforts to meet the educational needs of traditionally underserved groups.
The Atkinson Gallery is a Learning Laboratory, hosting numerous educational programs alongside its world-class exhibitions. Education programs include: Gallery Tours & Discussions (K-12 and the community at large), Artist Lectures, In-class Critiques and Lessons with Visiting Artists, and an Internship Program. The Gallery also hosts an annual Student Art Exhibition.
