With support from the California Arts Council, The Crowden Music Center will enter our 13th year of providing comprehensive and sequential music education to students at Washington Elementary School in Berkeley, and to students of Sankofa Elementary in Oakland. Classes are taught by teaching artists, and fill a need for music education in lower-income schools. This project provides access to music education for under-served youth during formative years.
Our major efforts today include: The Crowden School (TCS): an acclaimed day school for grades K-8 combining music education with rigorous academic curriculum. Community Programs: a diverse slate of classes, workshops, camps, and events open to the public. Community Outreach includes offering public concerts and an annual free “Community Music Day Festival” designed to appeal to people of all ages (including toddlers through our live “First Concerts” series.
