With CAC support from the California Arts Council, artist William Rhodes will conduct 20 weekly quilting workshops serving Black seniors living in San Francisco. The project will result in two quilts informed by the participants’ life stories and experiences: each quilt will comprise 24 8” by 12” quilt panels organized around a large center square.. In May 2020, AAACC will exhibit the quilts in its Sergeant Johnson Gallery or another location inside the building.
AAACC’S PROGRAMS ARE DESIGNED TO ADDRESS THE CURRENT STATE OF THE BLACK ARTS IN SAN FRANCISCO BY STRENGTHENING THE ABILITY OF BLACK CREATIVES TO CREATE, TEACH, PRESENT AND PROMOTE THEIR WORK. WITH THE GOAL OF CREATING A SUSTAINABLE BLACK ARTS COMMUNITY, AAACC FOCUSES ON THE CREATIVE, ECONOMIC AND HEALTH NEEDS OF BLACK CREATIVES.
