With support from the California Arts Council, Sixth Street Photography Workshop will share the arts and skills of photography with low income residents of SRO hotels and non profit residences. Their photographs will be exhibited in four exhibitions at our 6th On 7th Gallery in South of Market.
Traditional darkroom instructional workshop is held every Wednesday from 11- 2PM. We use the darkroom at SOMArts Cultural Center, 934 Brannan St, in South of Market. The facility consists of a seven station black and white darkroom, a seperate film developing/ print washing room and a classroom. Film-based photography is popular. The developing and printing program is the original foundation of Sixth Street Photography Workshop. Participants learn to make exhibition quality prints.
6th On 7th Gallery, 105 Seventh Street (at Mission) in South of Market is our primary site. We have a full gallery operation showing photographs from current members and our print archive. The collection dates to 1992 and contains images of the neighborhood in transformation. We feature accomplished Guest Artists in a section of the Gallery, thereby expanding our community and discourse. Digital classes are held Fridays. Photographers have access to computers and staff when the Gallery is open.
