Teatro Espejo is a cultural cornerstone in Sacramento, producing work that is of, by, and for the Latine and Chicano communities. As the second longest running teatro in California, we recognize the grassroots responsibility we have to serve our communidad with resonant programming and services.

ONE-ACT FESTIVAL
Now in its eighth iteration, the One-Act Festival invites open submissions from playwrights seeking an opportunity to workshop new work. Three plays are selected, each paired with a team of collaborators for a development process. The festival culminates in public staged readings followed by artist talkbacks, offering audiences direct engagement with new voices and stories.

INTERCULTURAL FESTIVAL
With three successful iterations, the Intercultural Reflections Festival was created by Teatro to celebrate Sacramento’s cultural diversity. In partnership with organizations such as Matriarchy Theatre, Sinag-tala Filipino Theater, Ma Series Arts, and PNDA Lahiarts, the festival presents a week of performances and cultural events led by BIPOC-centered companies. Each partner produces an evening of work, culminating in a weekend-long community celebration featuring live performances, a block party, and a BIPOC artist market.

MAINSTAGE PROGRAMMING
Teatro Espejo also produces two to three full productions annually as part of its Mainstage Season that reflect a range of styles and themes, often grounded in social relevance and cultural pride. Community favorites have included Zoot Suit, Real Women Have Curves, and countless world premieres by Sacramento-native playwrights. In recent years, Teatro has deepened relationships with fellow theaters of color, co-producing works with Matriarchy Theatre and Los Escritores del Nuevo Sol.
