Our mission was born out of our founder and board members sharing a common experience: artists of color in the Sacramento theatre arts community need more spaces and opportunities to feel represented, included, and valued. Through discussion, our goal became clearer: create productions that provide an avenue for diverse artists who want to tell stories about their own communities and share them with audiences who want to see their experiences echoed onstage. To reach audiences from varying socioeconomic backgrounds, we keep our stage production costs–whether video-on-demand or live–low ($0-$30) and charge no membership or class fees. By keeping prices low in hopes that multicultural art becomes an attainable norm, instead of a privilege.

Our theatrical plays, artist showcases and virtual readings educate and represent culture by implementing writing and subject matter that features genuine issues affecting our community. These include but are not limited to race, cultural family norms, physical and mental disabilities, and sexual and gender identities. Accurate representation in everything from our crew members to our cast is a strong priority for our board members who all belong to cultures of color, have disabilities, and identify as queer.

We dedicate time and effort to ensure the groups we belong to and represent are portrayed authentically and mindfully onstage by thorough research, interviews, open discussions of colorism, empathetic coaching, and reviewing testimonies and feedback. This allows us to incorporate our community while continually growing and refining how we reach them. We also purposefully recruit diverse actors and crew while clearly defining trigger warnings for patrons. Our actors meditate together following each rehearsal to ensure we are mindfully depicting and not exploiting our vital experiences of color.
