With support from the California Arts Council, Suarez Dance Theater will launch the On Being American project, two week-long residencies with The United American Indian Involvement and Mixteco Indigena Community Organizing Project. Working in collaboration with community partners we will collectively investigate what American citizenship signifies.
Since inception Suárez Dance Theater has produced seventeen evening-length dance-theater works, numerous site-specific and community events, dozens of dances for the theater and film, along with teaching, creating and performing dance-theater at school sites all over the U.S. Their work has been presented in over 50 different theaters in fifteen different cities. Suárez Dance Theater has partnered with many schools and community service organizations. From 2008-2014, Suárez Dance Theater partnered with the artworxLA, an organization that combats L.A.’s high school dropout crisis with a long-term, sequential arts programs. Christine also co-created Dance for Veterans at the West LA VA Medical Center where she teaches severely mentally ill veterans and trains VA clinicians.
