With support from the California Arts Council, SPECTORDANCE will partner with Hartnell College in Salinas to present Ocean Trilogy Project, a performance created with Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute about ocean health. Pre and post-performance activities will complement the high-quality dance experiences targeting this low-income, priority community.
SPECTORDANCE creates dance that addresses some of today’s most pressing socio-economic topics such as climate change, gangs and juvenile justice, agricultural history, and military family sacrifice. Our creative practices weave together music, spoken word from filmed interviews, visual images, and dance to create works that heighten awareness of critical issues in a way that reaches people’s hearts!
ENGAGEMENT PROGRAMS are associated with each Company project. For each project we forge meaningful partnerships with a wide variety of artists and outstanding local non-arts organizations, including Monterey Aquarium Research Institute, Rancho Cielo, Porter Youth Center for Military Families, Monterey County Free Libraries, and others that have fueled our original performances and associated engagement programs, and help us to understand our community and broaden our audiences.
SPECTORDANCE COMPANY is currently performing several issue-based performances projects: 1) THE OCEAN TRILOGY PROJECT explores ways that dance can expand awareness of ocean science and promote ocean health. In 2024 and 2025, SpectorDance presented numerous Ocean Trilogy performances in King and in Salinas. Along with performances, we offer creative movement workshops for youth exploring themes from the piece.
WILDFIRES explores Indigenous knowledge of fire ecology. In 2024 and 2025, we presented several Wildfires performances and associated movement workshops for youth in King City and Carmel.
In 2025, SpectorDance partnered with Sol Treasures to present our 1st KING CITY DANCE WEEK with performances and movement workshops featuring guest artists at the Stanton Theater and the 4th ANNUAL OCEAN ARTS FESTIVAL at the Monterey Museum of Art on May featured ocean-themed visual and performing art created by artists under the age of 24.
Upcoming, we are planning for the 5th annual Ocean Arts Festival at the YMCA of the Monterey Peninsula in October 2025 and the 2nd annual King City Dance Week in February 2026.
