With support from the California Arts Council, SOUTH EAST EUROPEAN FILM FESTIVAL will celebrate, through films, ethnic identities and culturally specific traditions and expressions of South East Europeans (SEE) in California, and activate community participants to develop and express their own creative and artistic abilities through cross-cultural programs including film screenings, literary salons and art talks, culminating with the week-long film festival in May 2019.
Founded in 2002 and incorporated in 2006, the South East European Film Festival in Los Angeles (SEEfest) pioneered the concept of regional, cross-border programming with issue-driven films that tell a larger story about South East Europe. The festival unlocks delicate doors into human existence, highlighting the struggles and concerns of our time that resonate with primary audience of largely marginalized South East European immigrants and their American neighbors in Los Angeles and neighboring counties.
The festival annually presents internationally acclaimed feature, documentary and short films, accelerator workshops for new cross-cultural media projects by emerging and mid-career artists, film retrospectives, literary salons, and other events. SEEfest maintains an extensive network of cultural, artistic, civic and public diplomacy partners and also serves as a resource for film aficionados, educators, young scholars, youth volunteers and the media.
