With support from the California Arts Council, SoLA Contemporary will compensate staff, interns, and exhibiting/visiting artists and curators for their work. We will also use the funds for general operating expenses including property taxes, insurance, utilities, and resources/supplies for our programs.
CORE PROGRAMS AND SERVICES
– Art Exhibitions
– Art on Slauson: An ongoing collaborative partnership that displays artwork at a local, Black-owned business, Hilltop Coffee + Kitchen.
– Creative Exchange: Emerging artists worked under the mentorship of an established art professional and learn how to critique artwork, write curatorial statements, create portfolios, curate and execute an exhibition.
– Critical Response: Experienced art practitioners support one another. Over 12 months, participants come together to create a community of artists and to produce new art in a collaborative environment. At the end of the year, the artwork is displayed and reviewed by an art critic.
– Portfolio Reviews for Local Artists
– Artist in Residence/Exchange International
– Community Art: Free community art workshops and projects.
– Open Mic: SoLA has partnered with Inner City Education Foundation (ICEF) to create an opportunity for local students and their families to engage in spoken word, live music, dance, and performance art.
