With support from the California Arts Council, SOL-LA Music Academy will provide outstanding music instruction and instruments to 270 K-8th grade students at Saint Anne School. Saint Anne School is Santa Monica’s only nonpublic Title I School, with at least 40% of families qualifying as low income according to federal standards. SOL-LA uses sequential, standards-based music education to transform the lives of these underserved students and their families.
Our programming includes:
Individual Lessons – Beginning to advanced instruction in violin, viola, cello, double bass, piano, voice, flute, clarinet, guitar, music theory and composition.
Group Classes and Ensembles – The SOL-LA experience begins with: early childhood classes from birth to 4 years of age, PreK-1st grade music exploration, and beginning piano. From there, students can participate in string ensembles, wind ensembles, and choir.
Chamber Music – Students from 2nd grade to adults develop collaborative skills by exploring masterpieces in duos, trios, quartets, and more.
Music Theory & Composition – We provide a continuous path of music theory instruction from elementary school to pre-college. Students develop a comprehensive understanding of the language of music.
Bravura – Designed in response to the social and emotional challenges facing today’s youth, Bravura gives students the tools to develop resilience, self-awareness, and authentic presence—on stage and in life.
Performance – Includes formal group concerts and solo recitals at the end of the semester, plus bi-monthly in-school performance classes.
Special Events – Includes master classes, workshops and concerts with renowned guests. We place a special emphasis on college audition preparation, wellness, and a unique collaboration with the acclaimed ensemble Delirium Musicum.
Saint Anne School Partnership – SOL-LA delivers music as a core subject at Saint Anne School, Santa Monica’s only nonpublic Title I school, where the program is offered free of charge. Students participating in the Saint Anne School Partnership are also provided instruments free of charge.
Saint Monica Preparatory Partnership – Middle school students attending Saint Monica Prep can choose a music elective track designed by SOL-LA. Students receive five days per week of music instruction during their regular school hours, including orchestra, instrument instruction, music theory, and choir.
