With support from the California Arts Council, SOA VILLAGE HOUSING INC (dba EVOAK!) will advance our strategic partnership between grassroots community and government to build cultural infrastructure in the Black Arts Movement Business District. This project is designed to preserve culture, prevent displacement, and uphold belonging.
CAC funds will be used to: 1) Support a part-time Cultural District Coordinator to manage outreach and program logistics; 2) Provide stipends to local artists and culture bearers to design public art and lead cultural workshops; 3) Launch a pilot cultural event series that showcases the district’s unique identity and talent; and 4) Develop a community-informed cultural asset map and promotional materials. These interconnected activities will strengthen community cohesion, provide economic opportunities for local creatives, and build a sustainable foundation for the district.
