Arts Education - Artists in Schools

Award Amount

$3,634.00

Project Description

With support from the California Arts Council, youTHink and the ZIMMER CHILDRENS MUSEUM will provide an artist-led in-school residency program in four public high schools in the 2018-19 school year. Teaching artists will lead the 12-session series for 9th grade students. Based on the success of other multi-year youTHink programs, the program is designed so that participating students may participate for all four high school years.

Organization Summary

The “Cayton” offers 21,000 square feet of play-based exhibits, art studios, a state-of-the-art theatre, and multipurpose space just blocks from the Pacific Ocean in the heart of Santa Monica. Throughout the year, we offer a robust calendar of arts and cultural activities, public programs, field trips, camps, classes and workshops for children up to age 8 and their families. Admission to the museum is free, or pay-as-you-wish, to create one less barrier for children to visit the Cayton. Beyond our museum walls, our community programs bring play into Los Angeles neighborhoods through partnerships with schools and non-profit organizations. These programs are designed to engage children in the creative, performance, and visual arts to ignite creativity where it’s needed most.
