With support from the California Arts Council, the Santa Paula Art Museum will fund the ongoing Teen Art Group, a free, weekly arts enrichment program for teens in the Santa Paula and Fillmore area, with the focus of individual instruction in basic art skills, as well as a collaborative project to design and execute public murals around the city of Santa Paula, with attention to Mr. Cardenas’s art as social practice and ability to add socio-cultural context to teen projects.
Established in 2010, the Santa Paula Art Museum (SPAM) provides fine arts exhibition programming, including rotating, original exhibitions by local historic and contemporary artists, artist talks and demonstrations, and exhibit videos and publications; arts educational programming, including free exhibit tours and hands-on art lessons for local schools, dedicated exhibition space for student-created art, free monthly family days, and studio fine art classes for all ages; and outreach programming, including a nine-year partnership with Boys & Girls Club of Santa Clara Valley providing weekly art lessons at four local Boys & Girls Club sites.
