With support from the California Arts Council, SANTA CLARITA VALLEY YOUTH ORCHESTRA will ameliorate salaries and revenue losses resulting from the pandemic. We will maintain our fiscal infrastructure supporting our multi-tiered instrumental musical programs, retain staff, and incorporate expenses we did not experience prior to the pandemic.
The Santa Clarita Valley Youth Orchestra (SCVYO) core programs and services incorporate our comprehensive, multi-tiered instrumental music education and performance experiences designed to support and inspire young musicians at every stage of their development.
Prelude Ensemble
Tailored for students with 1–2 years of playing experience, this ensemble introduces foundational skills including rhythm, intonation, ensemble collaboration, and performance etiquette in a supportive group setting.
Symphony Orchestra
Designed for intermediate students with 3–5 years of experience, this ensemble focuses on refining techniques while fostering leadership, teamwork, and discipline through more challenging repertoire and advancing ensemble practices.
Novae Sinfonia
Our most advanced ensemble, Novae Sinfonia is for musicians with 5+ years of progressive experience. It offers a college preparatory curriculum that includes in-depth musical analysis, complex repertoire, and masterclasses with prominent professional musicians and service through performance.
Our Community Partnership Children’s Concert Series (CPPC), strives to make every concert a magical, unforgettable experience for performers and audiences. Each season we partner with local youth arts organizations, as well as professional musicians, artists, dancers, filmmakers and more, to create engaging, visually dynamic concert experiences that enrich the cultural life of our region. We include an instrument zoo and arts/crafts to provide children an immersive cultural experience. These performances appeal to multi-generational family members, and patrons who would otherwise not attend a youth orchestra concert. Recent CPCCs have included Carnival of the Animals and Peter & the Wolf.
Novae Sinfonia musicians have the opportunity to participate in bi-annual performance tours. We explored New York City and took the stage at Carnegie Hall in 2024. We will travel to Settle, WA in 2026 for a similar adventure.
Santa Clarita Valley Youth Orchestra is dedicated to musical and social diversity; bringing a positive impact to the musical education and enrichment of our young musicians and community at large.
