With support from the California Arts Council, San Pedro City Ballet will continue to provide dance instruction, arts education, and exercise to more than 3,100 underserved and underrepresented students at public schools throughout Los Angeles and offer free after-school instruction for those who wish to develop their talents further.
The Nutcracker: A classic Holiday ballet is produced annually. Cast is comprised of professional dancers, community leaders, Board members, volunteers, our Company members, and Firebird Dance Program students. Free tickets are distributed to homeless and domestic violence shelters, as well as underserved elementary and middle schools, so that all families and students, regardless of income, have the chance to watch a live performance.
Firebird Dance Program: Firebird Dance Program (formerly DancEd Steps Up) provides comprehensive dance education, instruction, exercise, and lectures (History of Dance & Careers, Good Nutritional Habits, Team Building & Social Justice, etc.) to over 7,000 public school students annually throughout the San Pedro/Harbor and Greater Los Angeles areas. In-school lessons are conducted twice weekly for approximately ten weeks, after-school classes are ongoing, and additional students are served through school assemblies with dance workshops and performances.
