With support from the California Arts Council, San Joaquin County Office of Education (SJCOE) will provide student camperships to a three-day sleepaway arts camp, called Color the Summer Art Camp, which will serve 100 students grades 4-7 from K-12 schools throughout San Joaquin County each year.
SJCOE has been providing arts-based programs since 2001. Schools within San Joaquin County are invited to participate in the coordinated music and art services SJCOE provides. These include:
1) Access to a library of music and art resources;
2) The Artists-in-Schools program, which promotes creativity and sparks imagination in our county’s K-12 classrooms by coordinating artist residencies in classrooms across San Joaquin County in visual arts and dance and movement; and
3) The annual middle school and high school honors concerts for band, choir, and string orchestra. This program, in partnership with San Joaquin County Music Educators’ Association (SJCMEA) and San Joaquin Delta College, culminates in honors concert performances held in the Atherton Auditorium on the San Joaquin Delta College campus. Talented band, string orchestra and choir students from schools throughout the county are chosen to participate via auditions each fall.
