With support from the California Arts council, San Francisco Filipino Cultural Center will be able to pay off some of its past unpaid lease and fund art and cultural projects through arts, in several genre, incubate artistic productions, resume after school programs, and enhance its small museum.
SENTRO FILIPINO aims to contribute to the promotion and development of arts and culture of Filipinos and Filipino Americans primarily, but also, provide educational opportunities with focus on increasing understanding and appreciation of creative arts, and culture of people of color.
Sentro Filipino aims to provide space available to local artists and cultural groups. It is a flexible multi-purpose facility that can host small intimate group meetings to 200-400 attendees at conferences. The Center provides the following:
-A venue for performances, theater, lectures and panels, dance, music, spoken word, poetry, art exhibits, performances by local, national and international artists;
– Host community forums, celebrations, festivals, live performance theater, film and Filipino Cuisine.
-Hold educational and informational seminars, and after school programs for the youth;
– Provide a safe and comfortable meeting and rehearsal space for all non-profits in the area.
– Incubate, grow and expand the reach of SF Bay Area based artists and groups.
– Cultivate promising artists through guidance by professional mentors
– Expand and upgrade its Small Museum
– Initiate its Legacy Live Studio that will record the Filipino American journey as it happens, and collect /gather information re past history through interviews of old-timers, veterans, artists, etc.
– Produce professional productions in dance and theater, voice recitals, films and lectures, and arts education
– Exhibit ancient history, ancestral arts and design, tribal arts, textile and clothing paraphernalia.
Through its programming and activities, SFFCC will create a friendly and embracing atmosphere with a focus on welcoming and educating visitors.
