With support from the California Arts Council, SAN FRANCISCO CINEMATHEQUE will curate “21st Century Bay,” a 5-program series of film/video works created by SF Bay Area artists since 2000. Programs will provide a comprehensive view of contemporary regional film/video practice and will be presented as public screenings in local venues. CAC funding will also support the development of an online streaming video channel by which these programs will be shared with the non-local film community.
The primary activity of San Francisco Cinematheque is the presentation of specially curated screening programs of artist-made (non-commercial and non-narrative) film and video. Additionally, Cinematheque creates publications documenting the field, curates online programming and maintains a publicly accessible research archive documenting the field.
