Project Description

With support from the California Arts Council, SAN DIEGO WINDS will provide young Californians with a world class summer music camp in partnership with San Diego State University. All students with a passion for music will be given instruction in music from the top musicians and teachers utilizing curriculum designed by top San Diego music educators, including over a dozen credentialed teachers, elite professional musicians and nearly every college & University band director in San Diego County.

Organization Summary

SDSMI- Founded in 2010 in partnership with San Diego State University, School of Music and Dance this comprehensive summer music camp has become one of
the elite camps of its kind in the Western United States.
Composer Festival- Wind Band festival for school music students that has given students the opportunity to work with some of the most prolific composers and conductors on the planet in San Diego.
Music Memory- Music Memory is a nationally recognized program that
gives children in the 3rd through 6th grades the opportunity to learn 16 pieces of classical music each year.
Take 5 for Music- Take 5 for Music is designed to introduce young people to great works of
classical music.
Showcases- Performances by professional musicians of wind band music. Students are invited to rehearsals held at San Diego public schools and incorporated into the concerts as guest performers and are given free or reduced price tickets.
