Project Description

With support from the California Arts Council, San Diego Filipino Cinema will be able to continue our work for the community by providing curated films from Filipino filmmakers and their perspectives throughout the year, with our film screenings and Q and A discussions in virtual and in-person programs.

Organization Summary

San Diego Filipino Cinema provides the Perspective Film Series, the Visions and Voices Program, Magic Hour Fest, Cine Social Meet-up, Filmmaking Workshops, Kapihan Panel Discussion, Mentorship for Emerging Filipino American filmmakers and the San Diego Filipino Film Festival. All programs are open to the diverse community of San Diego and beyond.
The Perspective Film Series is a special screening of compelling films by the global Filipino filmmaker and a Q and A with the filmmaker and film collaborators afterward.
The Visions and Voices program is an insightful panel discussion with a Filipino and/or Filipino American filmmaker about the different aspects of filmmaking including its symbolisms and social commentaries. This is open to the diverse community of San Diego
The Magic Hour Fest is a celebration of films, food and culture and heritage.
The Cine Social Meet-up is a gathering of filmmakers and a place for networking for future film projects.
Filmmersion is a filmmaking workshop is specific to the invited filmmaker, where the participants learn from the work experience and technical expertise of the filmmaker and they are challenged to bring their ideas to the workshop so we can discuss them and its viability and improvement.
The first San Diego Filipino Film Festival which will be at the end of the year 2021 is the celebration of the stories in film created by the global Filipino filmmaker through film screenings, panel discussions, workshops while highlighting other art forms (like dance and music) in between.
The Mentorship Program is a continuing mentorship for students from 15 to 30 years old and older (no age limit) who want guidance on their specific film project, ideas or technical understanding of film or even analysis of films. This is open to the diverse community of San Diego.
