Project Description

QWOCMAP uses film to shatter stereotypes and bias, reveal the lived truths of inequality, and illuminate the brilliance of marginalized communities through art and activism. QWOCMAP creates, exhibits, and distributes high-impact films that authentically reflect the lives of, and address the vital, intersecting social justice issues that concern, African Descent/Black; Native American; First Nations & Indigenous; Native Hawaiian & Pacific Islander; Southwest Asian, Middle Eastern, Arab, North African, South Asian; Asian, Southeast Asian, Central Asian; Chicanx & Latinx including indígena and afrodescendiente; and multi-ethnic lesbian, bisexual, queer women of color (both cisgender & transgender), and Two Spirit, intersex, and nonbinary, gender nonconforming, and transgender people of color (of any orientation), and asexual people of color (LBT2SQIA+ BIPOC).

QWOCMAP fuels leadership and creativity by actively investing in, developing, and nurturing our community as filmmakers and media artists. We spark awareness, and galvanize collective action, and forge solidarity through a combination of curatorial vision and deep community building. We fire understanding and impact through education and public discussion to strengthen movements. We break economic, technology/digital, and access barriers by centering the most vulnerable members of our community: Sick & Disabled; im/migrants; LBTQ women of color survivors of violence, abuse, and trauma; Muslims; houseless/marginally housed/low-income; formerly incarcerated/institutionalized/system involved; elders; and youth ages 18-24.
