With support from the California Arts Council Playhouse 395 will be able to cover operating cost revenue gaps caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Playhouse storage facilities and venue rentals cost $13,650 annually. Storage requirements involve our portable stage, electronic equipment, lighting equipment, props, costumes and set pieces.
Playhouse 395’s main annual programs and services are a spring musical production aimed at all age groups; Children’s Theatre Workshop, a two-week summer program for grades 1 through 8, and a fall musical production for middle- and high- schoolers, usually presented at Bishop Union High School. In addition, we produce other events and work with community groups on joint events.
Playhouse 395 also produces non-musical theater shows and other musical presentations. The spring musical show involves around 200 individual volunteers on-stage and behind the scenes, plus members of the audience. Everybody involved in producing a show is a volunteer; no one is paid. Playhouse 395 is the only theatrical performance group of its type in Inyo County — basically, the “only show in town,” dedicated to providing exceptional theatrical experiences and education in one of the most remote and geographically isolated areas in California.
