Founded in 2009 by choreographer and community organizer James Kidd, Pieter implements the core belief that dance is for everyone. Pieter is an established 2200 sq. ft. non-profit community arts space that stimulates regional dance and performance making it available to all without regard for ability to pay.
Pieter provides a platform for local, national and international artists to explore their distinct and overlapping aesthetics and interests where they can build their LA audiences. Pieter draws from communities sometimes marginalized in dance including queer and trans artists, low-income populations, and artists of color. Pieter’s performances, residencies, workshops, classes and subsidized rehearsal space nourish artists and support the growth of creative community.
