We produce three fully staged opera productions per year with local artists, six performances of each production. Through each audition process, we extend our network of opera singers of color focusing on young, early career singers at the semi-professional and professional level. Since our company is young and small, early career singers benefit most significantly from the experience and training offered by our company.

It is critical to our mission that each production creates opportunities for artistic and professional growth. To that end, we provide private vocal coaching and instruction tailored to each singer’s particular musical and diction needs.We also conduct a 4-day acting workshop before staging rehearsals begin, for the benefit of singers who do not have extensive theatrical experience.

It is also very important to provide career building opportunities to our artists, we invite other local opera companies to our performances to expand our singers’ professional networks. Additionally, Phénix invites the media to review our performances. After the performances, we provide a video-recording of the performance and professional photographs to all our artists, which they can use to enhance their individual portfolios.

We are also committed to making opera and classical music accessible to our target audience of low-income people, who often cannot afford to attend opera, and people of color, who often do not feel welcomed or represented in mainstream opera spaces. To this end, we are nurturing new relationships with venues that share our commitment to these underserved audiences: The Mission Cultural Center for Latino Arts, the Brava Theater and The Bayview Opera House each with strong connections to the Latinx, and/or African-American communities. Through these relationships, we expect to significantly grow our audiences in the upcoming years.
