With support from the California Arts Council, the Pasadena Symphony Association (PSA) will sustain our Pasadena Symphony Teaching Artists program at four schools in the Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD), providing access to quality music education for over 300 students. This grant will deepen the partnership between the PSA and the PUSD and support high quality music instructors in the highest-need elementary and middle schools in the district.
he PSA offers a wide range of performances each year, including classical symphonic concerts at the Ambassador Auditorium, contemporary POPS concerts at the Los Angeles County Arboretum, and holiday candlelight concerts at All Saints Church in Pasadena. To provide opportunities for arts access to all members of our community, the PSA provides a free Music Under the Stars concert at Pasadena City Hall each summer, and offers free tickets to low-income youth, families, and community groups to our ticketed performances.
Additionally, The PSA has been training tomorrow’s classical musicians through the Pasadena Youth Symphony Orchestras (PYSO) since 1972. Now in its 52nd season, the PYSO is considered among the best youth ensembles in Southern California, and one of the few to serve children in the critical middle school years. We are thrilled to share that our youth education program has expanded by an astounding 50% in the past two years, increasing from 7 to 11 ensembles and serving over 800 youth annually.
