Project Description

With support from the CAC, Pacific Symphony will help fund artist fees for 88 orchestra musicians who perform in the Class Act Youth Concerts for under-served grade 2-6 students. Through the Class Act music education program, children in six Title I Anaheim schools will attend Pacific Symphony concerts at the Renee and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall in May 2020. Class Act annually provides some 16,600 students with music education, participatory activities and free Symphony concerts.

Organization Summary

Pacific Symphony produces a wide variety of programs and services, and provides more than 100 concerts and 2,000 education and community engagement activities annually. The orchestra serves some 275,000 residents and visitors each year through programming which aims to improve the health and vitality of its local community and citizenry through free access to concerts and participatory musical experiences for under-represented populations. The Symphony’s professional musicians lead community engagement efforts for all programs and performances.

Concerts, musical services and programs are designed to serve the multicultural communities of the region, with community engagement an institutional priority. Education programs include music learning in the classroom, immersive violin instruction for Title I children, a summer arts camp, and a multi-generational orchestra. Free concerts are offered in public parks, community centers, local festivals and through the Heartstrings community wellness programs targeting under-resourced, vulnerable populations. The orchestra is positioned as an influential economic driver and, as such, acknowledges the evolving needs of marginalized residents. Through education and community engagement programming, the Symphony supplies schools and local nonprofits with music opportunities to offset the steady decline of the arts to students and Orange County residents.
