With support from the California Arts Council, OPERA SAN JOSE INCORPORATED will present a series of concerts performed by the OSJ Military Veterans Chorus during the 2018-19 season, including performances at Veteran retirement homes, VA Hospitals, the USS Hornet, Veterans and Armistice day events, and a concert to raise funds for the non-profit organization Destination Home, benefitting homeless veterans.
Opera San José (OSJ) is a professional, regional opera company that is unique in the United States. Maintaining a resident company of principal artists, OSJ specializes in showcasing the finest young professional singers in the nation. In addition to main-stage performances, OSJ maintains extensive educational programs in schools and in the community at large, and offers preview lectures and Introduction to Opera talks for all main-stage productions.
By the conclusion of the 2019-20 season (its 35th), OSJ will have presented 152 opera productions, including 5 world premieres among the 61 titles in its repertoire. Most recently, OSJ presented the North American premiere of Deutscher’s Cinderella. The number of K-12 educational performances over the same period will amount to approximately 2,525. Community programming for adult audiences will total nearly 3,300 performances. Audience figures for the 2018-19 season totaled approximately 44,000 through all areas of company programming.
