Project Description

With support from the California Arts Council, Studio 1405 will create and implement a Vallejo-based Muralist Training Pilot Program. Through a series of workshops, participants ages 14-24 will be instructed on every aspect of becoming a muralist, resulting in community wide mural projects as efforts towards graffiti abatement and prevention.

Organization Summary

One People Tribe strives to change the narrative from starving artist to “starting artists”. As a collective of artists who support each other through cooperative economics, our primary focus is on extending our creative practices, skills and networks to disadvantaged and economically oppressed minorities, on facilitating non-hierarchal and sharing work environments, and in nurturing burgeoning artists in securing sustainable creative work lives in the Bay Area. To accomplish our mission we offer a variety of creative services, including but not limited to; MAST our Mural Arts Skills Training program for youth of all ages in Vallejo, creative skill building workshops, professional development activities and mentorship programing. Additionally, we provide a variety of supportive services and referrals to assist small and minority owned businesses such as business license acquisition, graphic design, marketing, project and campaign management, and grant writing, with the goal of assisting small minority owned businesses and organizations in reaching their next levels.
