Project Description

With support from the California Arts Council, The Old Globe will provide the Pam Farr Summer Shakespeare Studio, a four-week summer program for students in grades 9-12 and high school graduates. The program offers a unique opportunity for students to develop foundational skills for reading, interpreting, and performing Shakespeare’s plays, and also to cultivate their own artistic voice through storytelling and creating original material inspired by deep, personal connections to Shakespeare.

Organization Summary

The Tony Award-winning Old Globe is one of the country’s leading professional regional theatres and has stood as San Diego’s flagship arts institution for nearly 90 years. Under the leadership of Erna Finci Viterbi Artistic Director Barry Edelstein and Managing Director Timothy J. Shields, The Old Globe produces a year-round season of 14 productions of classic, contemporary, and new works on its three stages and in the community. More than 200,000 people attend productions annually and participate in the theatre’s artistic and arts engagement programs, including Globe for All, a touring production that brings Globe work free-of-charge to diverse, multi-generational audiences at libraries, senior centers, military installations, homeless shelters and correctional facilities across the region. Numerous world premieres such as the 2014 Tony Award winner for Best Musical, “A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder,” were developed at the Globe and enjoyed successful runs on Broadway and beyond.
