Project Description

With support from the California Arts Council, Oaklash will incubate year-round programs that elevate the queer folk art of Drag and uplift queer and trans artists of color. Oaklash is an emerging arts non-profit that creates space for radical self-expression and celebrates people’s many intersecting identities through performance.

Organization Summary

Oaklash hosts an annual festival of Drag and other queer performance that takes place annually in Oakland, California. Since 2018, Oaklash has featured over 500 local and international queer performers and artists. All year round we provide a diverse range of new and innovative programs including panels, workshops, small grants, performances, and large scale communty celebrations featuring music, DJs, and dancing at venues around the East Bay. Thousands of attendees come to Oaklash each year, and over 265,000 viewers have watched our programs online.
