Now Be Here supports the practices of thousands of diverse women and non-binary artists by building community and expanding public knowledge of the work of these artists. We do this through outreach, public programs, a series of artist talks, and our free, global visual artist directory. In 2016 at Hauser & Wirth in Los Angeles, over 700 women-identifying artists gathered together. The resulting group photograph immediately went viral. The project traveled to the Brooklyn Museum and Perez Art Museum in Miami. When the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington, D.C., hosted the DC/MD/VA iteration in 2017, the project expanded to include Now Be Here: Now Let’s Talk, a series of 17 programs, and an Artist Resource Fair comprising 21 non-profit organizations serving artists and their practices. A 2018 survey of the artists provided data for the website reconstruction, focusing on making the artists’ work visible, providing a searchable database, and listing practical business tools artists need. As of 2025, the website features nearly 1,000 artists. Unlike other artist platforms, we never charge artists or visitors, removing financial barriers to access and discovery. The site functions as a living archive and a practical tool for curators, gallerists, educators, and the public to engage with artists’ work directly. Our outreach strategy combines direct engagement, collaborative programming, and media partnerships. Our Guest Curator Initiative offers emerging curators the opportunity to research and showcase artists from the directory through interviews, video studio visits, and scholarly features. A recent outreach campaign targeted over 300 independent and museum-affiliated curators. In 2025, Now Be Here remains a critical resource and platform amplifying the creative, intellectual, and civic contributions of artists too often left out of the conversation.
