Project Description

With support from the California Arts Council, the Northern California Chamber Music Academy will be able to expand the programs we offer to young musicians during the year, and underwrite scholarship for students who would not be able to participate otherwise. We sponsor two main events each year: one in the winter, one in summer. We wish to add events during the academic year that support the young musicians in our programs: in-depth workshops featuring members of the San Francisco Symphony.

Organization Summary

NCCMA’s core programs and services center around two annual musical education events we organize and sponsor that serve the community of double bass and electric bass students and musicians here in the Bay Area. The first event is a summer program called the Golden Gate Bass Camp San Francisco, the second is a winter recital and workshop intensive called the San Francisco Winter Bass Bash.
The guiding principal of both events is the same: we seek to reach out to, engage and connect the diverse musicians and performers playing the bass who wish to learn and grow their skills as artists and musicians. We engage the most talented professionals in the field to work with students directly, teaching skills on the instrument and in ensembles performing with other musicians. The bass has been historically underrepresented in the field of chamber music, which has motivated us to provide opportunities for bassists to experience this interaction directly, and grow as artists and collaborators.
