Project Description

With support from the California Arts Council, Museum of Photographic Arts will provide students in grades 4-12 with hands-on, multi-session workshops that expose them to photography as an art form and build skills in visual thinking and creative expression. The goal of the “Exposure” program is to utilize photography-based activities to increase students’ skills in 1) self-expression, 2) creativity, 3) critical analysis, and 3) production of artwork.

Organization Summary

Exhibitions- MOPA presents 7-9 exhibitions annually; including temporary, traveling exhibitions and exhibitions born of MOPA’s own ingenuity, patrons, and permanent collection.

Education- MOPA’s Exposure program introduces 175-215 Title I 4th-8th grade students to using photography as a way of communicating their ideas. Students learn art, STEM, and language skills while making their own art work. MOPA offers robust programs for adults/senior citizens. For seniors, the SEPIA program encourages them to engage with art and the community by promoting art appreciation to create images by learning digital skills.

Film- MOPA uses the power of film to promote discussion and cinema appreciation through diverse festival offerings such as the Human Rights Watch Film Festival. Additionally, partnerships with organizations such as San Diego Italian Film Festival and Taiwan Cinema Spotlight, etc. bolsters the Museum’s presence within the City and demonstrates its collaborative nature.
