Project Description

With support from the California Arts Council, Mira Theatre Guild will utilize funds to pay for the overhead and expenses in providing equitable and inclusive programming of low cost and free artistic presentations, events, education, and sliding scale affordable facilities for other non-profit and community based artists and cultural organizations.

Organization Summary

As the oldest community theatre arts organization in the city of Vallejo, The Mira Theatre Guild has a long history of both creating community theatrical productions and providing low cost or free event & performance space for other non-profits, community organized events, meetings, and entertainment. The Mira Theatre Guild owns and operates the historic 100 year old Bay Terrace Theatre building and property, which has over 15,000SF of event space. Over many decades, the Guild has produced numerous plays and radio theatre performances, and has served as a theatre and community space for regional and local organizations such as Verismo Opera, Diaz & Loera Centro Latino, VACT TV, Vallejo Heights Neighborhood Association, The Vallejo Symphony, Vallejo Unified School District for extracurricular activities, Straits of Mare Island Rowing Association, Vallejo Waterfront Weekend, Bay Area Stage Productions, Curtain Call – GVRD’s children’s theatre group, among many others. The Mira Theatre Guild will continue to create and produce community based events, bringing multi-ethnic and multi-generational community members together in creative meaningful ways, and to provide an affordable, sliding scale, or cost-free event location for non-profits, community organizations, and individuals for the purposes of fundraising, independent theater productions, and community building. In 2021 MTG produced its first annual Gay Pride Celebration, and also partnered with Solano Aids Coalition to produce and host our first Dia de los Muertos celebration. Our 2022 programming continues to present diverse community events including the award winning one woman show “Overlooked Latinas”, further development of the LGBTQ+ POC focused Chocolate Rainbow Theatre Company, free and low cost theatre arts classes for youth, and expanding cultural & diversity celebrations by annually producing events such as Gay Pride and Dia de los Muertos, as well as outreach to and partnering with additional culturally diverse organizations to build programming and deepen the connections within our community.
