With support from the CAC, Mingei International Museum will aid students and teachers at Freese Elementary as it becomes an arts and culture museum magnet. Mingei will work with students and educators on the program that includes museum visits, curriculum planning, professional development and a student exhibition.
Mingei International Museum maintains a collection of more than 30,000 objects from 150 countries, which form the core of its exhibition program. This varied collection includes a renowned collection of 10,000 glass beads and beaded objects, an exemplary collection of 350 American quilts and a 10 foot high Dale Chihuly glass chandelier, among many other stunning objects. Since 1978, Mingei International has presented more than 200 exhibitions and has been accredited by the American Alliance of Museums for its commitment to excellence and high professional standards. Recent exhibitions have focused on relevant regional issues as well as highlighted many diverse artists with fresh perspectives – including the 2023 PINATAS: THE HIGH ART OF CELEBRATION which highlighted many local living artists and 2024’s LA FRONTERA highlighting the cross border experience through body adornment and jewelry, again highlighting diverse local and national artists. Mingei International’s education and outreach effort further facilitates the understanding of art of the people (mingei) from all cultures of the world, offering a diverse range of learning opportunities connected to the Museum’s exhibitions and collections while responding to the needs of a growing, diverse audience.
