Project Description

Mid-City Community Music (MCCM) is dedicated to changing lives through the power of art and music in San Diego’s Mid-City neighborhoods. MCCM-trained teaching artists provide in-school and after-school arts and music workshops to students in local Juvenile Court and Community Schools (JCCS) to reduce the risk of criminal behavior, improve emotional well-being, and boost academic performance.

MCCM also offers after-school workshops, performance workshops, and scholarships for private lessons to all teens in City Heights, one of San Diego’s most ethnically diverse and economically disadvantaged neighborhoods.

Started in 1974 as The New Expression Folk Music Center by three San Diego musicians, MCCM now offers an artist in residency program featuring local artists, affordable performance workshops, group and private lessons, weekly jam sessions, and free concerts to all community members.
