Project Description

With support from the California Arts Council, The Mendocino Film Festival will sustain and continue to adapt programming and operations as we work to connect audiences with the power of independent film in our rural and remote region of Northern California with limited access to arts and cultural programming.

Organization Summary

Annual Film Festival:
For over a decade, our community-driven local film festival has brought arts and culture to a community that currently has limited access to independent film and has injected hundreds of thousands of dollars into our region’s economy. The Annual Film Festival emphasizes original and diverse storytelling, the art of cinema, personal engagement with filmmakers, and connection through community, as well as enables filmmakers and attendees to focus less on hype and more on craft and creative kinship due to the quiet and beautiful setting of the Mendocino Coast.

Outdoor Film Series: The Mendocino Film Festival has launched an Outdoor Film Series to bring the power of film to the community in a safe and inspiring outdoor environment. Our Cinema in the Redwoods and Cinema in the Park programs bring the excitement of outdoor screenings to the community during a time when a connection to the arts and culture is absolutely essential. We are working to expand upon this series as we work to safely connect the community with film.

Classic Film Series: The Mendocino Film Festival presents the Classic Film Series at Coast Cinemas in Fort Bragg throughout the year to allow our community to enjoy a selection of classic films. Featured films have included Casablanca, The Shining, North by North West, Blazing Saddles, Good Fellas, Purple Rain, and The Goonies.

Young Filmmakers Training Program: Our Young Filmmakers Training Program connects Mendocino High School students with the opportunity to develop a diverse set of film production and screening skills that set them up to pursue a viable career in film after graduation. We are currently in the process of expanding our Young Filmmakers Training program to engage students from Fort Bragg High school where more than 42.62% of the students identify as Latinx.
