With support from the California Arts Council, Melody of China will conduct its Chinese music class at Sunset Elementary School in San Francisco. Students, grades 2 – 5, will have the opportunity to learn to play a Chinese instrument of their choice. Instruments include: erhu (2-string bowed fiddle), yangqin (hammered dulcimer), guzheng (zither), pipa (lute), ruan (moon guitar), dizi (bamboo flute) and paigu (drum). The 20-week class will culminate in a recital for friends and family.
Melody of China conducts performances, classes and lectures on traditional Chinese instruments including: yangqin (hammered dulcimer), guzheng (zither), sheng (mouth organ), pipa (lute), dizi (bamboo flute), erhu (2-string fiddle), and others. Melody of China also presents performances of newly commissioned works with contemporary composers and performers.
