Project Description

With support from the California Arts Council, MANILATOWN HERITAGE FOUNDATION will offer traditional Philippine kulintang and gangsa music instruction at San Francisco’s International Hotel Manilatown Center. The “Kommunity Kultura” program will offer a monthly beginner-level workshop for all ages, weekly classes for continuing youth and adult students, and quarterly recitals for continuing students. Kommunity Kultura will be a free and family-friendly program open to the general public.

Organization Summary

The Manilatown Heritage Foundation’s core program is to maintain the legacies of San Francisco’s historic Manilatown neighborhood and the 1977 International Hotel Eviction by maintaining the International Hotel Manilatown Center as both a memorial to these legacies and as a multipurpose community gathering space for creative expressions relevant to today’s community.
