Project Description
With support from the California Arts Council, Malaya Filipino American Dance Arts will present an evening gala completely devoted to the Pangalay dance style. Pangalay is a dance from the southern Philippines that is highly respected for its complex postures, meditative flow, and as a symbol of ancient Filipino culture. Support from the CAC will benefit the training for traditional Pangalay and also help with the creation of new choreographies that represent the Filipino American community.
Organization Summary
Malaya provides Filipino dance and music classes to the Los Angeles community particularly in the San Fernando Valley. Membership is open to all ages and all ethnic backgrounds. Malaya is also a deposit for Filipino culture and provides educational programs and workshops for schools, universities, and community organizations. Malaya maintains a performing arts company and is available for private and public performances.
