With support from the California Arts Council, the Los Angeles LGBT Center, in partnership with Outfest Los Angeles, will offer a 6-month media arts education program, OutSet: The Young Filmmakers Project, where at-risk LGBTQ youth, age 16-24, learn filmmaking skills and produce 5 original short films under the mentorship of entertainment industry professionals. Films will play at Outfest Los Angeles Film Festival and the Center’s Models of Pride, the world’s largest LGBTQ youth convening.
Each year, the Center provides life-saving and life sustaining programs and services to the LGBT community in four broad categories: HEALTH (primary care; HIV/AIDS specialty care; mental health counseling; transgender health care, and addiction-recovery treatment – all at our Federally Qualified Health Center with an on-site pharmacy), SOCIAL SERVICES AND HOUSING (homeless youth programs; affordable housing, case management and services for seniors), CULTURAL ARTS AND EDUCATION (award-winning theatrical productions; art exhibitions; adult education classes; and a charter school for LGBTQ youth), LEADERSHIP AND ADVOCACY (mentorship and empowerment programs for youth; training and support for international LGBT human rights activists; legal services; research and policy advocacy around LGBT issues).
