With support from the California Arts Council, award winning filmmaker Andrew Putschoegl will provide instruction on documentary filmmaking techniques to 12 senior LGBT veterans who will band together to create a film that captures their unique perspectives related to serving in the U.S. Military. The film will be screened at the Los Angeles LGBT Center Stand Down (a veteran’s resource fair) and at a larger community-wide event, as well as offered to film festivals and then posted to You Tube.
Each year, the Center provides life-saving and life sustaining programs and services to the LGBT community in four broad categories: HEALTH (primary care; HIV/AIDS specialty care; mental health counseling; transgender health care, and addiction-recovery treatment – all at our Federally Qualified Health Center with an on-site pharmacy), SOCIAL SERVICES AND HOUSING (homeless youth programs; affordable housing, case management and services for seniors), CULTURAL ARTS AND EDUCATION (award-winning theatrical productions; art exhibitions; adult education classes; and a charter school for LGBTQ youth), LEADERSHIP AND ADVOCACY (mentorship and empowerment programs for youth; training and support for international LGBT human rights activists; legal services; research and policy advocacy around LGBT issues).
