With support from the CAC, KULTIVATE LABS will develop and present TALA: the Ancestors Light Activation. In collaboration with community youth, artists and seniors, the project is led by artists Kristian Kabuay and Samantha Schilf. TALA includes a community mural and programmed projection mapping activations featuring past, present, and future ancestors from SOMA Pilipinas. Grant funds will support artist fees, free community arts workshops, performances, and projection mapping programming.
UNDISCOVERED SF: Our flagship program engages audiences through music, arts, and community while providing a platform for local entrepreneurs to launch new businesses. UNDISCOVERED brings 35,000 people a year to SoMA and required an investment of only $125,000 in city grants to generate over $250,000 in economic activity.
Balay Kreative: Culturally relevant artist support and professional development for Filipinx and other BIPOC artists. Balay Kreative’s re-granting program distributes grants of $2000-$5000 to Filipinx artists who present their work to SOMA Pilipinas audiences. In 2020, we regranted to 23 emerging and mid-career artists of all disciplines and backgrounds.
Kapwa Gardens: Funded by MoHCD & OEWD, Kapwa Gardens provides daily health and wellness classes, COVID testing and vaccinations, art, food and business pop-ups drawing in dozens of small businesses and thousands of customers a week.
