Mission Statement: A hub for Japanese and Japanese American arts and culture and a community gathering place for the diverse voices it inspires – the Japanese American Cultural and Community Center (JACCC) connects traditional and contemporary; community participants and creative professionals; Southern California and the world beyond.
Purpose: Founded in 1971, JACCC advances traditional Japanese arts and their practice. For nearly 50 years, JACCC has presented visual and performing arts rooted in Japanese artistic traditions, and has recently implemented arts-based programs to reach Japanese-American seniors who reside in Los Angeles’ Little Tokyo, one of only three remaining Japantowns in the US; implemented place-based community development strategies using community-driven arts programs; and forged partnerships to produce arts-based programs that promote inter-cultural understanding while maintaining a distinct Japanese/Japanese-American perspective and nexus to shared traditions.
