Project Description

International Eye L. A. (IELA) provides programming and services in arts, culture, social equity and education. From 1994-2018 IELA’s work in festival and carnival arts established the presence of Caribbean Carnival arts in Southern California, trained hundreds of producers and built an infrastructure for this art form to thrive. Its ‘STEAM at the Core’ and LA Carnival On Tour brought carnival arts education into schools and communities throughout the state. IELA collaborates with advocacy organizations like Arts for L.A., and in 2018 worked with the Empowerment Congress and the Office of Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas to launch the E.C’s inaugural Festival of Democracy. In 2018 IELA produced ‘Imagine Home,’ an arts based mental health initiative, funded by CalMHSA. To address homophobia in the Caribbean community, IELA will launch ‘Jonkanoo Masquerade,’ in 2020 and continue the CAC funded LPV Festival and Concert Series, including its flagship festival, LA Carnival.
