Project Description

The mission of Homeboy Industries is to provide hope, training, and support to formerly gang-involved and previously incarcerated individuals, allowing them to redirect their lives and become contributing members of the community. We do this by providing therapeutic reentry programming that offers tenderness, compassion, kinship, and opportunities for transformation.

Homeboy Industries began in 1988, when Father Greg Boyle was pastor at Dolores Mission parish in Boyle Heights and witnessed firsthand how gang violence tore apart communities. He believed that something as simple as a job could counteract the “lethal absence of hope” that he fueled gang life. Since then, Homeboy has evolved into a trauma-informed therapeutic community working to reduce barriers to employment and to foster transformation.
